Hydrant Flushing
The Southeast Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority will be flushing selected hydrants throughout its service area during regular hours (8:00AM – 4:00PM) from May 12 through May 23. Included in this year’s program will be selected areas of Morris Township and Hanover Township.
Flushing is a maintenance process which improves the quality of drinking water. Flushing removes sediment and iron compounds and also circulates the water in the mains to prevent stagnant water problems. Areas that experience episodes of discolored or odorous water will be flushed.
While flushing is taking place, customers in the immediate vicinity may experience discolored water. The discoloration is caused by, as mentioned above, sediment or iron compounds in the water main and does not present a health risk. This is a temporary situation that will clear once flushing is complete. However, to avoid clothing stains, customers are advised not to wash laundry until the water is back to normal.
